SOTM Spotlight: Willa Dyer

Written by Cooper Ray

The journalism staff’s very own, Willa Dyer, was named Student of the Month by Mrs. H because “Willa is not afraid to step out of her comfort zone and try new things in Journalism. She is someone I can rely on because she consistently meets deadlines, takes initiative, and puts careful thought into her writing.

When interviewed, she was asked how it felt and what it meant to her to be a student of the month. “You know man, it feels pretty great, but I was surprised because I felt like I didn’t deserve it. But then I sat back and thought about how hard I have worked in journalism and then changed my mind. I’m very proud of myself.”

Also, to receive student of the month you have to show PRIDE throughout the school. When Dyer was asked how she showed PRIDE, she responded, “by being nice to people and having integrity.”

Dyer also says when she wakes up in the morning, she doesn’t look forward to coming to school. But just like anyone, she has one person that makes her day better. When I asked her what her favorite part of school was, she replied “seeing my bff, Jayla Creamer between 5th and 6th period.”

Who doesn’t have a favorite teacher? Teachers are a vital part of any student’s academic career. When Dyer was asked who her favorite teacher is, she said “Mrs. H, because she motivates me when I’m down and cheers me up. She deserves teacher of the month.”

Last but not least, Dyer was asked what her most memorable moment of the school year has been so far. “I mean, there have been a lot, and I mean a lot of things that have made my year. But so far, I’d say being able to come to 7th period everyday has made my year so far.”

Congratulations Willa, keep working hard!
