Read Across America Day is a time to celebrate reading nationwide. It takes place on the 2nd of March, and also on Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Lots of schools, libraries, and community centers bring together many people and books.
This is a time to motivate reading, and also is an awareness program that calls for reading across the whole country. A variety of reading activities and events are held. For example, some students take part in a Read Across America channel designed to showcase student and educator videos around the country. Others make reading pledges, organize book fairs, or read aloud to groups of people.
It is not a federal public holiday, but it is very much so celebrated with students and educators. The National Education Association created the day for people to see how important reading is.
