2017 LCHS Football Signing

By Sara Kirkland

On Wednesday, February 1, Lee County High School held the 2017 Signing Day for current senior football players. For those of you that are not aware of what a signing day is, it’s the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for college football with a school that is a member of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Seniors participating in this signing were:

  • Tory Carter, signing with Louisiana State University
  • Jermon Christy, signing with Savannah State University
  • Garet Glover, signing with Albany State University
  • Akilies Leroy, signing with Florida Atlantic University
  • James Monteiro, signing with University of West Georgia
  • Mark Robinson, signing with Presbyterian University
  • Shaun Rountree, signing with Valdosta State University
  • Aubrey Solomon, signing with University of Michigan

Freshmen that played football this past season were invited to attend so that they could witness their older role models take part in this event that is a huge step into the rest of their lives. This also gives freshmen a look at where they could possibly be in about three years. Out of the seventy freshmen football players, I picked four to interview to hear their thoughts about the signing they went to, and these were their responses:

Kyle Cloud

Was this an interesting event to go to, if so, why?

“Yes, because I got to see everyone decide what college they’ll continue their football career at.”

If you could’ve picked any of the schools being signed to today as a school for you to sign to in the future, which one would it be?

“University of Michigan.”

Out of all the seniors signing today, which one is your biggest role model, and why?

“Aubrey Solomon, because we play the same position.”
