When one thinks of Halloween, I imagine their mind goes straight to costumes, candy, and scary movies. Although this is what goes through people’s mind today, that’s not always what Halloween was known for.
In the past, Halloween was tied with lighting bonfires, and dressing in costumes to get rid of roaming ghosts. These Halloween traditions were thought to be originated with the ancient Celtic festival in Samhain, which was over 2,000 years ago. Over time this holiday turned into a more of a community event. It became known for more child-friendly activities and traditions, such as trick-or-treating.
Although these traditions will keep changing over time, I imagine Halloween will continue to be a national holiday in which millions of people join together to have fun, and maybe eat some candy!
