We asked for some help around the school for this article. We took a poll to see who, if it were up to us, who would we vote into the oval office. We got a lot of results and tallied them up and here is what we got…
Crazy right? Well sometimes things like this will be surprising. You think, oh this candidate will definitely win and then the craziest thing happens, they lose!
Well Donald Trump won and that’s because of different reasons. One student we asked said they voted for Trump because, ”America really isn’t in the best position right now (what with ISIS and the trillions of dollars of debt and all that) and Trump is willing to address these problems”, another student stated that, “Trump should be our next president because he is strong on trade, foreign policy, immigration, and economic plans. It also helps that he hasn’t been under an FBI investigation for a majority of the campaign season and it also helps that he didn’t lie under oath about threatening the security of millions of Americans.”
In second place was Gary Johnson. In all honesty it was very surprising. 20.4% actually voted for him. We were very surprised with him coming in second place because you don’t really hear a lot about him on the campaign trail. Usually you only hear about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton took the place of third. She had only 19% of the votes which is a little strange. When we asked around it sounded as though she had some strong supporters. One student commented and said, “I feel that Donald Trump is not capable of running a country…[he] does not care for others or their feelings. As someone who wants their president to care about them and their needs, I would vote for Hillary.” But that doesn’t change the fact that she got third place.
In last place we had Jill Stein. Only 3.7% actually voted for her. Stein isn’t exactly the most well known and neither is the party she is representing, the Green Party. The Green Party, “are grassroots activists, environmentalists, advocates for social justice, nonviolent resisters and regular citizens who’ve had enough of corporate-dominated politics.”(www.gp.org)
When we tallied up the votes we had to leave out about 20 votes out because they stated they wanted no one or other and technically they are just saying that they wouldn’t have gone and voted. Which is actually quite silly because you are just wasting a chance that the people that came before you and fought for. They went through a lot in order to grant you freedom, give you democracy, the right to vote, and suffrage for all Americans. Which some people would have been ready to die for so that you could have that chance.
