Trojan Marching Band Attends District 2 Jamboree

Written by Jackson Carlstrom

The Lee County High School Marching Band participated in the annual District 2 Marching Band Jamboree this past Saturday September 17th.

During the Jamboree they played their halftime show, TogetherLC. The theme of the show is that people are stronger when they are together. They played “Happy Together” by The Turtles, “One is the Loneliest Number” by Three Dog Night, “All by Myself” by Celine Dion, and “Titanium” by Sia. They performed at Cairo High School alongside 10 different high school marching bands all across district 2, and Troy University, who performed for all the high schools bands to watch.

The District 2 Marching Band Jamboree is an annual event where different high school marching bands across district 2 travel to a school in district 2 to perform and get judged for their performance, like a competition.

The jamboree is a great way for marching band members to learn what they need to work on before competition season starts. “It was nerve-wracking. I need to focus more for competition.” said Christina Wynn, freshman and percussionist in the marching band.

Veterans of the marching band also find the jamboree helpful. Senior color guard member Olivia Kearce said “I feel that it went better than past years…It was the best performance that the band has had all season…It was a good practice run for future competitions.”

Overall, the Lee County Marching Band put on a great performance. After the show, Mr. Carter, the band director, said that the Lee County Marching Band’s performance at the jamboree was “the best performance of the season so far.” Congratulations to the Lee County Marching band for their performance at the District 2 jamboree!
