The Lee County Cross Country teams attended the 17th Annual Warner Robins Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Colby Jones finished first for the Trojan boys, and sixth overall with a time of 17:51. Hunter Hatfield (13th) was the second Trojan to cross the finish line followed by Ben Phillips (28th), Trevor Cleveland (63rd), and Walker Pinson (85th) respectively. On the girls side, the first Lady Trojan was Ansley Cain with a time of 21:51. Ansley placed sixth and was followed by Ramsay Miller (17th), Victoria Natoli (21st), Rachel Kiesau (24th), and Caroline Taylor (25th).
Sadly, the boys team would not go on to place in the team standings, but congratulations are due to the girls team on winning second place out of 18 high school teams competing. Both teams did extremely well considering the weather and major competition at the race. The rain decided to come down right before the start of the boys varsity race but stopped after a short shower. This left the air very humid and hot, which is not ideal running weather. There were some very big and intimidating schools that attended, but both teams didn’t let that stop them from going out and doing their very best.
Each win is a step closer to region, which both teams are hoping to pull off a first place finish. The community of Leesburg is excited to see what these two teams will do with the rest of their season. You will find both teams in Bainbridge, GA, Saturday September 17, ready to take on their next meet and hopefully bring home another win!
