Trojans Got Talent!

February 25th, 2016 was an exciting day at Lee County High School; it was the night of Trojans Got Talent!  

The Trojans Got Talent is a Georgia District Kiwanis Talent show, and the winner gets scholarship money.

There were only two freshman performers, Maggie Nguyen playing “Marriage D’Amour” on piano and Kyle King singing “Almost is Never Enough”. Although neither performers won any awards, they represented the freshman class well.

In 3rd place overall was Cole Dziedic who preformed “Man Who Sold The World” on guitar and vocals.

In 2nd place overall was Ever Green (Courtland Holt and John Ramsey) who preformed “I’ve Always Loved You” on guitar and vocals.

In 1st place non-musical act was Aaron Barnett who Jam Skated to “Treasures”.IMG_2014

The 1st place overall winner was Michaela Milner who did Hula-Hooping to “Soap”.

The People’s choice award was an award given to the performer who got the most votes from the audience, $1 = 1 vote. The People’s Choice Award went to Aaron Barnett.

The Kiwanis Talent Winner, who won scholarship money was, Jenny Wang who performed  “The Seasons, Op.37a=XI November= Trokia”

All the proceeds from the show went to three different organizations, Whiz Kids Tutoring Program, The Buddy Bench Project, and The Lee County Youth Council. The Whiz Kids Tutoring Program was started by a retired teacher, Elanie Ruckel, in 2012. This is a national program that works towards improving the lives of disadvantaged children through academic tutoring, positive mentoring relationships, and, spiritual nurture.

The Buddy Bench Project is a partnership between Lee County Family Connection, Lee County Pre-K, Lee County Primary, Kinchafoonee Primary, Twin Oaks Elementary, and Lee County Elementary Schools. The concept of this project is to eliminate loneliness and foster friendships on the playground.

The Lee County Youth Council is a leadership program that is made up of Lee County High School students. Students focus on addressing problems today’s youth might face. The Youth Council mainly focuses on issues surrounding teens use of drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.
