9th Grade Adds to Backpack Blessings Success

Written by Breyatta George

LCHS 9th Grade Campus made this Thanksgiving Food Drive a success! November 19, 2015 was the last day of the food drive and pledge card donations.

The three winning classes from the highest amount of money donated were Mrs.Lane, Mrs. Hinds, and also our very own Journalism Staff! The combined total raised by these three classes alone was over 3,243 pounds of food.

Also yesterday, the kids who received the food were very thankful and made cards to the Kiwanis Club saying thanks for our donations.

Back in October, the Kiwanis Club was trying to get people to sponsor a child for an entire school year for the cost of $180 dollars.

The Kiwanis Club started Backpack Blessings in 2010 and they served only 10 kids. Now, the year of 2015 was their year! Currently, they are serving 85 kids and were able give 19 families food to supply them during the break.

With the help of our Lee County schools, the Kiwanis Club’s Backpack Blessings Thanksgiving fundraiser achieved the goal of giving back to families over the Thanksgiving holidays!
