A glorious summation of how vast Pope Francis is

Written by Mackenzie Rosa

I’m sure that most people have heard about Pope Francis and how awesome he is. With the Pope’s recent visit to the United States, I can’t contain my excitement. I know what you are all thinking. Rosa? What’s so awesome about Pope Francis? LOTS OF THINGS! He was the most talked about person on social media this year, beating Miley Cyrus.  Just like former Pope Benedict XVI who beat Justin Bieber with more re-tweets. IT’S AWESOME THAT MORE THAN ONE POPE IS ON TWITTER!

But that’s enough about Pope Benedict, all the excitement is about Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia this past September. *Marshal from How I Met Your Mother’s voice* GOING TO PHILLY! He celebrated Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter on September 26th at 10:30 am. He talked to the different people in the crowd but he had a very busy day, as he also visited Independence Hall. There he delivered a speech to 50,000 people and said, “One of the highlights of my visit is to stand here, before Independence Hall, the birthplace of the United States of America.”. Later that day he went to the Festival of  Families to deliver another speech. His visit was very exciting for the city of Philadelphia, but it did cause some controversy when it came to Philadelphia’s economic impact.

It’s caused streets to shut down, security needed to be at an all time high, and made transportation quite difficult. They had to move large numbers of people to different places, but it did generate upwards of $418 million dollars toward the city of Philly.  It is predicted that amount could grow to over $500 million from Hotels, Local Businesses, and restaurants.

Pope Francis is definitely the most unique pope of all time, he was the first to visit congress. He stated “I am most grateful for your invitation to address this Joint Session of Congress in “the land of the free and the home of the brave”. I would like to think that the reason for this is that I too am a son of this great continent, from which we have all received so much and toward which we share a common responsibility.” .

Pope Francis is known as the “People’s Pope”. He’s is called this because of his great acts of kindness, he uses his fame for good. Francis once washed the feet of a poor Muslim woman jailed in Rome’s youth prison as a part of the Holy Thursday ceremony. He has also touched, kissed, and blessed a man covered in tumors. He has also made himself more approachable by letting children come near him in public appearances. Pope Francis is the most loved pope of all time, I look forward to what Pope Francis does in the future.
