Another Win for LEE

Written by Jillian Branham

On September 14, 2015, Lee’s very own 9th grade football team was rewarded with their second win of the season. The boys ran on the field strong and ran off the field even stronger. The score of the game was almost a tie but our Trojans picked themselves up and showed both the audience and Westover that they are indeed The Mighty Trojans. With a score of 32-26 you can only bet that the team had a great time after the game.

Time to get serious! Jeremiah Engram, #18, DB, looks quickly to the side to take orders from Coach Green during the football game. Determined to stay focused, he takes in every demand thoroughly.

When asked, Coach Green recognized two players of the week. The two players included Jordan Weekley and Tavian Mayo. Throughout the whole game, both team members tried their best to help their whole team win.

Tavian Mayo (#2), a DB, was recognized as player of the week for the defensive block. The reason for this was his great effort and good sportsmanship throughout the season. During the game, Mayo was completely focused on one goal: winning the game. Mayo was interviewed the very next day about his inspiration, goals, and his favorite thing about his campus.

Interviewer: What inspires(d) you to play football for all of these years?

Tavin Mayo: My dad inspires me to play football, I want to be just like him.

I: What goals, and/or wishes do you have hope for in the future?

M: In the future I hope to get an offer from UCLA college. This goal fuels me to be the best I can be, for both myself and everyone around me.

I: Do you have a favorite thing about this campus? And if so, what it is?

M: Yes, my favorite thing about this campus is being given the opportunity to be able to do what I love most: football.

Having extra time for the interview with Tavian Mayo, I was able to ask his his favorite academic subject to which he answered “My favorite subject has to be Civics.”

After interviewing Tavian Mayo, we took the time to interview Jordan Weekley. Jordan Weekley (#88), a wide receiver, has been awarded player of the week for offensive block. Weekley was able to pull off two different touchdown catches, including the winning touchdown. When Weekley was interviewed he was asked about his inspiration, goals, and his favorite thing about football.

Interviewer: What inspires you to play football?

Jordan Weekley: My family greatly inspires me to play football.

I: Do you have any goals for the future?

W: I hopefully wish to be able to give back to my family and provide for them one day.

I: Is there one special part about football that you love the most? If so, what is it?

W: Yes, my favorite part of football is making all kinds of different memories with my teammates and friends.

After interviewing Coach Green’s pick for the players of the week our school should feel honored to have these boys representing our campus. Just by interviewing two of the team members and standing on the sidelines, you’re able to see just how hard these boys work. Being able to handle academics and football should be a reward in itself. Lee County Trojans are so proud of our 9th grade football team and all of the dedication that they are putting into football to make us proud. Lee Co. is lucky to have all of you!
